The Birth Control Pill - A Short History
The first birth control pill came out in 1957 when it was initially approved by the FDA to regulate menstruation by disrupting estrogens.
Birth control pills contain either Progestin, which is a synthetic form of natural Progesterone, or they contain a combination of progestin AND estrogen. The purpose is to disrupt natural hormone production.
