Ginkgo Biloba's Active Herbal Components
By Jacobus Hollewijn
Health Pearl # 46
The ancient herb Ginkgo Biloba is not one that works immediately; it usually takes about two weeks of daily use to really notice improvements in memory and brain function.
So, you students-out-there: don’t take just DURING finals week; start a few weeks before!
As with many other herbs, Ginkgo Biloba works best when taken in standardized extract form!
What does that mean?
In these more modern times researchers have tried to figure out WHAT makes an herb work? WHICH element or component can the herb not do without.
By dissecting any herb under a microscope and by one-after-one exchanging components in-and-out of the unit, it becomes clear which element, or extract gives the herb its power.
In the case of Ginkgo Biloba there were actually two elements: ONE was given the name GINKGOFLAVONGLYCOSIDES, the other the name TERPENE LACTONES.
When you purchase a bottle of Ginkgo Biloba, turn over the label and find these two components.
Usually, you see 24% GINKGOFLAVONGLYCOSIDES and 6% TERPENE LACTONES.
After that… make sure you take 120mg daily for the foreseeable future. That means ONE or TWO capsules.
Chinese medicine also uses the Ginkgo Tree extract for a variety of ailments such as coughs, asthma, and Emphysema; ringing in the ears, eyesight, dizziness and vertigo like Menière’s disease.
Do you remember all that, or will you have to replay this Health Pearl?
