While preparing for winter, let’s talk about an herb that many of you have heard about. It grows only on the North-American continent in both Canada and the US.
For over 300 years it has helped many Native Americans, (and Europeans alike) suffering from a wide variety of both internal and external ailments.
It is the Purple Cone Flower, but most of us know it under its botanical name “Echinacea”.
Echinacea is used to enhance or stimulate the body’s own resistance against infections, including prevention of colds and flu. Too many times doctors prescribe antibiotics for when someone becomes sick.
But, let’s face it: antibiotics have no effect on viral infections. They are a-n-t-i - b-a-c-t-e-r-i-a-l, or better translated as against - bacteria, which includes (without discrimination) both BAD ones and GOOD ones found in our intestines!
More than 1,200 articles have been written about echinacea. In them there are references to a variety of studies as well as on how to use it.
Echinacea works best when taken at the first signs of symptoms when one has a cold or flu. And my personal suggestion is to hit-it-hard for the first day-or-two by taking a couple of capsules for 24 hours every two hours, minus when you are asleep, of course!
People who prefer taking liquid tinctures, have seen even quicker improvements when taking a full dropper every 10-15 minutes for three hours, followed by a full dropper once an hour… until bedtime.
For more chronic conditions, it is best used for a ten-to-twelve day period followed by a ONE-week resting period.
