Yesterday I said free radicals are the bad guys in the body.
According to the medical literature these are oxygen molecules and atoms with impaired electrons in its outer shell.
Molecules contain an even number of electrons. Once they lose one, and the number becomes uneven, they do anything to survive. This includes stealing an electron from one of our healthy molecules and atoms.
This causes a chain reaction, which is that more and more molecules are being stolen from. This type of thievery creates damage to our own inner household, slowly but surely continuing throughout the body. It manifests itself through health problems such as premature aging…, and serious health challenges like cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
The fields of Biology and Chemistry are not my strong suit. But there is much well-explained information available to give you better insights into specific names of free radicals in the body, as well as the specific damage they can cause. Two of the most dangerous for us are HYDROXYL RADICAL and SUPEROXIDE ANION RADICAL.
Left unchecked free radicals can cause damage to our cells to the point they can barely function anymore, leading to destruction of our cells and ultimately… death.
